How to Create a FireWire OS X Boot Disk

Computers usually boot from an internal drive, but that’s not a requirement. A computer may also boot up from a CD, DVD or external drive. Having the ability to boot from a drive other than the internal hard drive provides an excellent opportunity to repair your computer or recover data should anything go wrong with your main internal hard drive. An external Firewire drive is not only a great way to assist in recovering lost data but is also a viable way to run your computer instead of relying on the main internal hard drive. You can boot from either a Firewire 400 or Firewire 800 drive. But since Firewire 800 runs twice as fast as Firewire 400, it’s the option to choose, if it’s available to you. Published on 1/28/2010
